The Champions League has already reached the semifinals. In this edition of the championship, the four strongest teams advancing in the tournament are Chelsea, Real Madrid, PSG, and Manchester City.
Two English, one Spanish, and one French team will battle it out for the 2021 trophy of the world’s most important football competition.
First, it was PSG eliminating reigning champions Bayern Munich that will have to relinquish their European throne. Chelsea did the same with Porto (2-1), despite losing the second leg at Stamford Bridge. Then Real Madrid knocked out Liverpool in a great match that ended 3-1.
Finally, Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City defeated Borussia Dortmund thanks to victories in both the first and second legs.
There will be a two-week break for the four qualified before they face each other for a place in the final. The first leg of the semi-finals will be played on 27 April and the second leg on 4 May.
In the first semifinal, Chelsea and Real Madrid will meet for the first time in the history of the Champions League. Both teams have been champions before, Real Madrid on 13 occasions and Chelsea on one. Los Blancos are the favorites because of their great experience in the competition.
The other semi-final will be a clash between two of the strongest teams in the world right now: Manchester City and PSG. Although neither of them has won a Champions League, this will be their golden opportunity to do it. Manchester City is the favorite, although it should not be forgotten that PSG lost the 2020 final against Bayern Munich, and probably will try at all costs to ensure that this does not happen again.
The fact that these semifinals pit winners against non-winners offers the possibility of a new Champions League champion.
