Real Madrid won the last edition of La Liga 2019-2020, leading the table since the competition resumed after the hiatus due to the pandemic.
Despite the fact that Barcelona seemed to have the League in their hands, the hiatus due to the coronavirus confinement marked a before and after very different for the Catalan club, who was experiencing a serious crisis that culminated in the defeat by Bayern in the Champions League, and has triggered a series of events of great impact for the club.
Nevertheless, the Catalans finished second in the competition, 5 points behind the white leader.
La Liga is Back!
La Liga starts on September 12 and will do it with much noise since the great crisis of Barcelona is causing the world of sports to look forward to Messi‘s next destination, as well as the players that the new trainer, Ronald Koeman has discarded to continue in the club.
Some think that Messi’s departure would be a cause for big concern for La Liga, but the reality is that after Cristiano Ronaldo transfer, even though it annoyed Madrid, it had almost no impact in the Spanish competition, which has spent years ensuring that the brand transcends the players. So the case of Messi wouldn’t have to be different.
But finally he decided to stay even against his will, and he will play out the final year of his deal with Barcelona, the club of his life.
We trust Ronald Koeman´s job to restructure the team will be of appropriate and suitable decisions for the club. This is what all the former Dutch managers did when they took over Barcelona.
MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR LA LIGA PREDICTIONS
Real Madrid is the absolute leader in La Liga trophies, having won 34 times, followed by FC Barcelona with 26 times. Last two seasons, 2018 and 2019 Barcelona was the winner of the competition, followed always by the White team.
In the last two decades, Real Madrid and Barcelona dominated La Liga, so most bets for this year’s championship are surely on these two football giants.
But there are three rival teams that have always been on the top of the list fighting next to the leaders and waiting for their chance to get the title just in case the two bigs fail to do so.
These teams are Atlético de Madrid, Sevilla and Valencia, all successful and powerful teams that are often in European competitions and together with Real Madrid and Barcelona, are five of the most successful teams in European competition history.
Atlético de Madrid
In terms of league titles won, Atlético Madrid are the third most successful club in La Liga, behind Real Madrid C.F. and FC Barcelona, winning the trophy 10 times and last time was in 2014 followed by Barcelona and Real Madrid in 3rd place.
In the former season 2019-2020, the team ended in third position.
Even though they only won La Liga in 1946, apart from others trophies at the regional, national and European level they are masters in the Europa League, since they have a record six UEFA Europa Leagues which they have conquered 6 times from the 6 times they qualified for the final. They are coming from winning the Europa League again this year.
The club ended in the fourth position last season 2019-2020.
They won La Liga 6 times in their history and last time was in 2004, followed by Barcelona and Real Madrid ended in 4th place.
Even though the team is one of the usuals leading the table, the former season 2019-2020 was not a good one for Valencia who finished in 9th position.
But other two powerful teams are Athletic de Bilbao and Villarreal which have been very close to the top 5 in La Liga and they can not be excluded to be surprising contenders to win the championship.
