The Game Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO)
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is a game to be played by two teams in which they have to face each other in a terrorist battle. One of the teams are the terrorists, and they will try to perpetrate an act of terror by planting and bombing the site or kill all five members of the opposite team.
Those to stop them are the counter-terrorists (also known as CT), who will try to prevent it by bomb defusing or again wipe out the whole team of terrorists. The aim of the game is to eliminate the enemy and also to protect a number of targets located at key points on the map.
Each team has 5 players, with a subjective vision in which they see the weapon and they have the perspective of the player they are in each moment.
Players can win and buy ‘skins’ for themselves and their weapons, such as recolours, stickers, gloves. These skins and accessories are only cosmetic and do not affect gameplay. Games are won by the team that has the best strategy and can anticipate and react to their opponents movement in the battlefield.
The maps in the game are open 3D scenarios that are rotating in the game and are inspired by real locations. In a competitive environment 9 maps are used with each one of them requiring different strategic gameplay.
The success of the Game
CS:GO is so popular because it does not require a PC with very high specifications to play, it is free and has a very popular, active and dedicated community that has followed the game since its first release. The disk requirement of the game is only 15GB, which is also not excessive compared to other modern games. All of these makes CS: GO to be on the top of the video games.
In 2020 the game has reached 924.045 active users at a time, and this is a new record in terms of people active at the same time in the game of Valve Corporation, which is very impressive, considering the game was published 8 years ago.
CS:GO has become one of the main categories of e-Sports, present in the Intel Extreme Masters, the big finals of the ESL world league.
The CS:GO circuit is based on a wide variety of tournaments in which teams from all over the world face each other. In September 2013, Dreamhack, the world’s largest computer festival of live concerts and competitions in digital art and gaming, announced the creation of the first Valve shooter championship, which would be financed by the spectators themselves. This is how the ‘Major’ was born.
The first event of this kind took place in Jönköping, Sweden, with $250,000 in prizes, a figure initially set for all competitions of this nature. The cast of participants included 16 names from different backgrounds.
Since then, the Major circuit has expanded significantly, representing now a $1,000,000 prize pool and featuring twenty-four teams from around the world.
