A week ago, Riot Games announced that League of Legends: Wild Rift, the mobile version of LoL, will have its first global eSports tournament in late 2021.
At the moment, the company hasn’t revealed much information other than the news. But regional qualifiers will take place this summer, leading teams to the international tournament in late 2021.
The first matches should take place in June, but no details have yet been revealed about the division of teams, prizes, or other information. The format and duration of the tournament have not been specified either. We will have to wait for Riot to provide more details in the coming months.
Wild Rift Mobile Experience
League of Legends: Wild Rift (also LoL: WR or simply Wild Rift), came to our phones a few months ago. It is the Android and iOS smartphone version of Riot Games’ popular MOBA League of Legends.
This is the third Riot game to land on iOS and Android, along with Teamfight Tactics and Legends of Runeterra. Riot Games has done a phenomenal job of adapting the controls to a touchscreen.
But Wild Rift is not a copy of the PC game. According to Riot Games, the game has been developed from zero to adapt its interface and gameplay to mobile touch screens. This is why Wild Rift has no cross-play against PC. This means you can’t play against PC players, as you can do in Teamfight Tactics or Legends of Runeterra.
However, the basics of the game are the same as in the PC version. There are two nexus, three paths, one river, buffs in the jungle, and five characters against five characters. There are no inhibitors in the base (from the tower you go directly to the nexus), the maximum level is 15 instead of 18 and the maximum skill level is four instead of five. This is to make the games shorter, the idea is to keep them under 20 minutes.

Play and Compete
Wild Rift is addressed to a wide audience that wants to have fun and compete. Unlike many mobile games, with League of Legends: Wild Rift you don’t have to spend any money as it is completely free to play.
All objects and items that are indispensable during a game of Wild Rift (such as champions and runes) can be purchased with the gold coins that you receive as a reward for completing a game. By simply playing and participating in events, you can unlock the more than 40 champions currently offered in the game.
Nevertheless, Wild Rift players will be able to use their money to purchase special points, which can then be exchanged in the in-game shop. These real money transactions do not offer any in-game advantages, they only allow players to obtain skins that only change the aesthetic appearance of their champions.
It is great that we can enjoy the mobile version of League of Legends. Now will finally have a corresponding eSports tournament of Wild Rift before the end of 2021.
