Liga MX: Liguilla 2021 Quarter-Finals Defined

The play-offs of the Liga MX Guard1anes 2021 were played this weekend, and  Pachuca, Toluca, Santos, and Atlas qualified for the quarter-finals of the Liguilla. These four teams will join Cruz Azul, America, Puebla, and Monterrey that were automatically qualified after finishing in the top four of the regular tournament.

In the playoffs matches, Atlas eliminated Tigres, Santos demolished Queretaro 5-0, Toluca knocked out the champions León by penalties, and Pachuca dispatched Chivas with four goals. 

Finally, the eight teams are ready to play in the quarter-finals.

Liga MX Liguilla Format

Teams are drawn from 1st to 8th with the best four teams playing at home. The clashes are 1st vs 8th, 2nd vs 7th, 3rd vs 6th, and 4th vs 5th. This means:

Cruz Azul (1) vs. (8) Toluca

América (2) vs. (7) Pachuca

Puebla (3) vs. (6) Atlas

Monterrey (4) vs. (5) Santos

The quarter-finals will be played in a round-robin format with three days between one match and another in the same series. In case of a draw, the tie-breaking criteria will be as follows:

Away goals: the team that scores more away goals will advance.

📋 Position in the table: if they score the same number of away goals, the second criterion that will define who advances to the Semifinals is their position in the regular season.
