The Mexican MX league started last July 24th, in an opening much awaited by fans, after the hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The 2020 opening, has a special name this season, ‘Guard1anes 2020’, in tribute to all the health personnel who are fighting every day against the pandemic in the country, and who are actually the protagonists and main fighters against COVID-19.
The start of the season is being held with closed-door matches, and the federal health authorities will decide when fans can return to the stadiums.
And although the league Guard1anes 2020 has just begun and it may be too early to predict who will be the championship winner, with some teams maybe it is easier to predict how the season may go.
The following are the teams that at present can be the contenders to win the Guard1anes 2020.
The current MX League champions and undoubtedly one of the best teams in Mexico, well known internationally and with a fan base so passionate that it defines itself as Volcán. They have won many titles in recent years, being one of the most consistent teams and always at the top in terms of wins with 13 national championships, of which seven are in the League MX.
Together with Chivas, they are the only ones to have participated in all the editions of the Mexican League. America is the most successful team, with 13 league titles won, the last one in 2018. America is a three times Copa Libertadores finalist and one- time Copa Sudamericana finalist. It is the most hated and also the most popular team at the international level. They play their home games in the Azteca Stadium, the largest in Mexico, and the Club´s high budget allows it to sign valuable players.
Along with their arch-rivals Los Tigres, Los Rayados is the second biggest club in Monterrey and another of the most successful in Mexican football. That is why it is the second richest team in Mexico, only surpassed by Chivas.
The beginnings of the club date back to 1945, a difficult year because of the war and the crisis, but today has become the fifth franchise with greater economic power in the Americas and the first within the First Division of Mexico, with a current value of 319.5 million. They won the Liga MX Apertura 2019.

The oldest club in Mexican soccer, and the only team to win a tournament outside of CONCACAF (Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football) has given it a great deal of prestige for being the most important milestone in the history of a Mexican team, winning the South American Cup. Pachuca is one of the strongest rivals that any team in the Mexican League can face.
Is the second team in Mexico City and a big club well known at international level. In the 70s they were the dominant team, winning and proving that they played great football, which gave them a lot of attention. Their main rival is the Águilas of América, against whom they have a terrible rivalry. It is considered the third team of Mexico in terms of number of fans.
It is the third team from Mexico City and is also one with the most number of fans in Mexico being an international legend with a very famous name. Alongside América, Cruz Azul and Guadalajara are considered to be Los cuatro grandes (the big four) in Liga MX.
