Luka “Magic” Doncic was born in 1999 in the capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana. The son of a former Serbian basketball player, he was already very fond of sports from the early age of 6, playing judo, basketball, and football at school. In the end, he chose basketball and joined the junior category of KK Union Olympia, and showed his great skill with the ball.
Early years and Real Madrid
In 2012 he won with his team the Lido di Roma Tournament, being elected MVP of the tournament, which aroused the interest of some European basketball clubs and in September same year he signed a five-year training contract with Real Madrid, until legal age. Luka thus became the youngest Madrid player to make his debut.
In his first season at Real Madrid, he obtains the MVP in the Junior’s Tournament Ciutat de l’Hospitalet. This and other successes allow him to advance categories in the white club, becoming one of the great hopes of the Real Madrid basketball team.
MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR NBA PREDICTIONS
Finally, Luka Doncic will make his debut with the first team Real Madrid on April 30, 2015, at the age of only 16. However, the young Slovenian player had to wait until the 2015-2016 season to become part of the official first-team squad. His first year in the ACB League was very discreet and unremarkable, but in the second season, he improved his statistics, although Real Madrid was unable to lift the European trophy or the ACB League that season.
With only 18 years old, Luka Doncic won with Slovenia the Eurobasket 2017, defeating Serbia by 93-85. Doncic was also chosen in the best five of the tournament.
In the 2017-18 season, the Slovenian stood out strongly in the ACB league as well as in the Euroleague, and thanks to this, Real Madrid managed to win both competitions.
Professional Career in the NBA
His dream of playing in the NBA came true in 2018, after being chosen in the third position of the draft by the Atlanta Hawks, being transferred in exchange for Trae Young shortly after to the Dallas Mavericks, the team with which he signed his first professional contract in the NBA. So at the age of 19, he became an NBA player, very promising, according to experts, who saw him as a rough diamond that needs to be polished.
And they were not wrong, since in his first season with Dallas, Luka Doncic achieved some amazing numbers: 21.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 6 assists per game. This helped him to be elected Rookie of the Year with 98% of the votes and in his second year, he is already an all-star.
Dallas are thrilled with Luka “Magic”, who has already become one of the NBA’s biggest stars at age 21 and only in his second season in the NBA. El Niño Maravilla (the Wonder Boy), the nickname Spanish newspaper Marca gave him while playing in Real Madrid, is already among the best players in the world with an average of 28.7 points, 9.3 rebounds and 8.7 assists per game and 44% effective in fielding. Plus, watching him play is quite a show for the fans. With all this, he is likely to become the first NBA Player of the Year this season.
And the numbers speak for themselves: With Dallas Mavericks, Luka Doncic has a 3-year contract for $22,293,360 guaranteed and an average annual salary of $7,431,120. So this 2019-20 season, Doncic will earn a base salary of $7,683,360.
Doncic Personal life
Luka “Magic” Doncic is still single and no sentimental scandals have been known. And we don’t doubt it, since seeing their behavior on the court and their results, their dedication to basketball is evident. He has been dating since 2016 with Anamaria Goltes, a Slovenian model and influencer. Although they apparently broke up in early 2018, before the NBA draft, they came back in July 2018 and they are currently together and by the posts of his girlfriend on social media, they are very happy. At the end of 2019, there were rumors of a possible marriage proposal to the model, but so far we haven’t heard anything else. Perhaps they will soon announce a wedding, although we fear that Luka´s sports agenda will be very tight after the coronavirus lockdown and the re-starting playoffs on the 31st of July.
