After 13 years without a fight, Californian Oscar de la Hoya is thinking about getting back in the ring, and he wants to do it against a prestigious rival, Floyd Mayweather, whom he has challenged by offering him a succulent sum of 100 million dollars to fight him, according to TMZ Sports.
Recovered from coronavirus
The 48-year-old boxer has just recovered from the coronavirus, which has kept him hospitalized in Los Angeles for five days. According to his own statements, his stay there was hell, although that has not dampened his will to fight his old friend, as soon as he felt recovered.
However, the idea of returning to the ring is not new to the fighter. He was scheduled to fight Vitor Belfort on September 11, but de la Hoya tested positive for Covid-19, despite being fully vaccinated. This prevented the fight from taking place.
De la Hoya is a boxing legend. The only one with a statue at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, along with NHL icon Wayne Gretzky, and Lakers superstars Magic Johnson and Karim Abdul Jabbar.
His last fight before his retirement was in December 2008, when he lost to Manny Pacquiao.

Also a comeback for Mayweather
As for Mayweather, 44, he is one of five boxers to defeat de La Hoya, and he is also contemplating a return to the ring. Since 2017 in his last professional fight against McGregor, he has only had a few exhibition bouts. He would probably like a possible rematch with de la Hoya.
Mayweather defeated De La Hoya by split decision in May 2007 to win the WBC light middleweight title.
He has since moved on to lucrative exhibitions, having fought against Japanese kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in December 2018 and YouTube star Logan Paul in June 2021.
The Golden Boy, who is also a promoter, knows that a fight with Mayweather would be massive and would attract a big crowd. He told this to TZM Sports, adding: “You know who I’m gonna call out for my next fight? Floyd Mayweather. I’ll offer Floyd Mayweather $100 million.”
Mayweather had declared that there were no more real fights for him, only exhibitions. At present, it’s unclear whether he is interested in a rematch with De La Hoya, and whether it would be contested as a sanctioned fight or an exhibition.
