Premier League is Back with First London Derby!

Reading Time: 5 minutes read

The new Premier League season begins on Saturday, 12th September and It promises to be an exciting first matchday.

These are the matches we will have the opportunity to enjoy on this first matchday:

Fulham vs Arsenal 12/09/20

One year after their relegation, a  newly-promoted Fulham comes back to the competition and will have the chance to face Arsenal in this London derby.

The Gunners finished the former season in eight position, their worst result since 1994/95 season, when the team finished 12th, but now they are ready to start full of energy and with the aim to improve their last performance, and they will show it in this derby against Fulham.

Crystal Palace vs Southampton 12/09/20

Crystal Palace finished in 14th position in the previous season and with a run of seven straight defeats, failing to score in six of those fixtures. They will have to improve their attacking prowess since they are among the favourites for relegation this time around.

Southampton finished last season nine points above Palace in 11th position. After the return from lockdown, the team only lost just one of their last nine games and picked up five wins during that period. As per stats, they won on their last three visits to Crystal Palace.

West Ham vs Newcastle 12/09/20

West Ham finished last season at the bottom of the table after surviving a relegation battle while Newcastle got only one point from their last five games. The feeling of the Hammers is that they are heading into the new season in better shape and they will want a home win for their first match of the season. The Magpies are also on the way to get ready for the competition, and especially with the signing of the Irish midfielder Jeff Hendrick from Burnley on a free transfer, which will be a great boosting for the team.

Liverpool vs Leeds United 12/09/20

Champions Liverpool will kick off the new Premier League season against newly-promoted Leeds. The Reds will begin their title defense in this match being the clear favorites to win against a team that since the 2004 season have not played in the Premier League. After a 16-year absence, the team has a long way to get used to the first division level.

West Brom vs Leicester City 13/09/20

Another newly-promoted West Brom returns to the Premier two seasons after their last appearance in the English top league, and in its first game will face Leicester finished  in fifth place and will be competing in Europa League this year. A hard start but a great opportunity for West Brom to prove their worth against a strong Leicester.

Tottenham, vs Everton 13/09/20

Tottenham finished very strong last season, and will be looking to keep this rhythm. Spurs sneaked into the top six thanks to claiming five wins and a couple of draws from their final eight matches. José Mourinho’s team is strong and settled and were unbeaten in their past 15 matches with Spurs, winning eight of those encounters. The Champions League will be Mourinho’s target this term.

On the other side, Everton  finished in 12th position in the former season and even though they will be keen to step up on this bad position, are still a lightweight team with a lot of work in process. The feeling is that Tottenham is the favourite for a home win.

Sheffield United vs Wolves 14/09/20

Sheffield United was last season’s surprise, and they came within one step of qualifying for Europe, but unfortunately the Blades just ran out of power and three straight defeats to finish off the season saw them slip to ninth in the table.

Wolves did well to finish seventh for a second successive season, and that means they will not get another crack at Europa League glory, having only gone out to eventual winners Sevilla in the quarter-finals. Now the team has to come back to play again so soon after an epic season which spanned more than a year. It is expected that the team will be recovered from Europe and be in total shape to face their first Premier match.

Brighton vs Chelsea 14/09/20

In the former season Brighton finished seven points clear of the relegation zone, in 15th place, even though the Seagulls made some good wins, especially on home turf.

Chelsea, 4th in the former season and ready for the next edition of the Champions, had to endure a transfer ban last summer, and lately have been making up for lost time with some exciting acquisitions to replace long-term servants and reinforcing the team’s defense with brilliant players. So the new reinforced team is ready to fight and the Blues are clear favourites in this first match of the new  season.
