According to the consultancy firm KPMG, Real Madrid is the most valuable club in Europe, for the third year in a row. The firm highlights that all clubs have suffered a reduction in value due to the pandemic, and the losses in the last financial year averaging 15%.
In the report ‘The European Elite 2021’ the Real Madrid’s value amounts to 2.909 billion euros. The second is Barcelona with 2.869 m, followed by Manchester United with 2.661m.
The KPMG’s report states that Real Madrid‘s leadership is sustained by the success achieved on the field and also the high commercial revenues earned during the previous years. In addition, for the coming seasons, the club will have additional revenues coming from the new Santiago Bernabéu stadium. The remodeled stadium will be fully available by the end of 2022, or early 2023.
But even Real Madrid is considered the most valuable club, its financial situation is very different. Real Madrid’s debt has skyrocketed because of the pandemic. The club already recorded a net debt of 354 million euros at the end of the 2019-20 season, compared to a negative debt of 27,1 million euros at the end of the previous 2018-19 season.

Season 2020/21 without titles
And sportingly speaking, Real Madrid is not in such good shape either. This has been a season without titles for the first time since 2009-10. After losing La Liga at two points to the champions Atlético Madrid, the club is going through a very delicate moment, with the departure of coach Zidane and the decline of captain Sergio Ramos.
With this situation, Real Madrid´s president Florentino Pérez is still energetically supporting the Europe Super League, as a way to generate more revenue for the club. Real Madrid, together with Barcelona and Juventus, are the three from the original 12 clubs involved in the breakaway ESL plans who have not formally withdrawn, despite UEFA’s threats to punish the teams.
Real Madrid is already planning the next season to recover from the present that has just finished. After Zidane’s resignation, their priority is to find a new coach. However, the club also has two striker targets in their sight. One is the french Kylian Mbappé, from PSG and the other the Norwegian Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund.
