Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic meet today, Friday, in the semifinals of the Roland Garros tournament, in a match that promises to be an early final. Although much is said about the rivalry between Nadal and Roger Federer, the reality is that the Spaniard has played more times against Djokovic than against the Swiss.
The two French Open semi-finalists will meet today for the 58th time in their careers, and with very even results: 29 wins for Djokovic and 28 for Nadal.
This match, apart from being a ticket to the final, will have many attractions, which makes it a special clash to watch.
The Fight for Another Grand Slam
Both players will continue their quest for another Grand Slam in today’s clash.
This will be the ninth time the two players have met at the French Open, four of them in the semifinals (2006, 2008, 2013, and 2021), of which Nadal has emerged victorious on seven occasions.
If Rafa Nadal wins this semi-final, he would be one match away from winning his 21st Grand Slam crown. In doing so, he would become the tournament’s all-time leading winner, surpassing his rival Roger Federer, with whom he currently shares the top spot in the rankings with 20 trophies.
Should Djokovic win and advance to the final, this would be his chance to win his 19th Grand Slam, moving dangerously close to the summit shared by Nadal and Federer.
Roland Garros Semifinal Odds
As usual, Nadal is the favorite to win this semifinal match, even Djokovic holds a 29-28 edge overall, however, Nadal leads 19-7 on red clay.
This is a long-awaited semifinal, but the reality is that Djokovic has not beaten his opponent on clay since 2016.
