Mexican driver Sergio Pérez will continue with the Red Bull Racing team for the 2022 campaign.

Through his social media accounts, the experienced and best Mexican driver of recent times, Sergio “Checo” Pérez, announced his contract renewal with the Red Bull Racing team for another year, until 2022.

“Very happy to announce that I am staying with Red Bull Racing for next season. Now we focus on winning the Championship for the team,” wrote Checo.

Charging into 2022

The Austrian team confirmed the news by releasing a video on their social media with the slogan “Charging into 2022” and the fans, happy with the Mexican and the points he has achieved, did not wait to praise the news.

Red Bull CEO, Christian Horner, said he was very happy to reach an agreement for the renewal of the driver from Guadalajara, due to what he provides race after race and his still ample potential, hoping that next year he can surpass what he has done so far.

“Checo’ is highly respected, his experience and race management are invaluable as we compete for the Constructors’ championship. His integration into the team went smoothly and we were impressed by his performances during the early part of the season, where he showed he could handle our car.”

“Next year we will be entering a new era in Formula 1 and with a decade of experience for ‘Checo’, he will play a key role in the team as we make this transition and enhance the RB18,” he said.

Motivated to achieve goals

In an interview with Red Bull’s official website, Checo commented that the news makes him feel happy and full of motivation, as the renewal gives him the backing he needs to achieve the goals he has planned.

“We all start from scratch next year with the new regulations, so my goal is to be at the top with Red Bull. It always takes time to get to the top, but with this team, everything has worked out very well and I enjoy being part of this family.”

“It’s great to see that the team has faith in me for the future. We have a lot more to achieve together and it will be a great challenge for the rest of this season and I hope to finish in a good place. I want to thank my fans around the world and in Mexico,” he concluded.

Dutch driver and Red Bull star Max Verstappen, meanwhile, says he is happy that his team-mate Sergio Pérez has been re-signed by the team.

“It’s great that ‘Checo’ will be with the team next year, we have a good relationship, so I’m happy to keep working together to try to score a lot of points,” he said.

Seizing the opportunity

The renewal of Mexican driver ‘Checo’ Pérez for another year is due to the effort made by him and the team, but also to the magnificent results shown on the track race after race.

The Mexican is fifth in the drivers’ standings with 104 points and two podium finishes, one of them in the first place. He is behind McLaren’s Lando Norris with 114 points (4), Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas with 123 points (3), Lewis Hamilton with 221.5 points (2), and his Red Bull team-mate Max Verstappen with 224.5 in the first position.

There are still 9 races to go, after the good result yesterday in Zandvoort where his teammate Max Verstappen had a merciless win ahead of Hamilton and Bottas. This puts Mad Max at the top of the standings.

This is a great achievement for the Red Bull team, although the Mexican must continue to score points in order not to move away from first and second place, but to keep fighting for the still attainable third place, which would represent his best year in his career.

In terms of teams, Red Bull needs to keep on gettings points the Mexican can score to regain the top spot in the standings, who seem to be recovering after yesterday’s great race. They are in second place in the team standings with 332.5 points, just behind Mercedes with 344.5.
